Celebrating the 100 year History of Chevy Trucks
One hundred years ago, the engineers at Chevrolet took what was an employee-modified parts vehicle and turned it into what would become the very first Chevy truck to go into production. To help celebrate this milestone, two new models of Chevrolet trucks are available for sale in Greensboro, NC. Both are "Centennial Editions." The first is the 2018 Chevrolet Centennial Silverado, and the other is the 2018 Chevrolet Centennial Colorado.
The First Chevrolet Trucks
In the early days, employees at the Chevy plant were using highly modified cars to haul parts and other items around the plant instead of moving them by hand. The company's design and engineering teams were inspired by these vehicles, and from them came the 1918 Chevrolet One Ton truck. This simple vehicle came as an open cab mounted on a rolling chassis. Powered by an inline four-cylinder engine, the rest of the frame was left open to allow buyers to install the body that best suited their needs.
Today's Trucks Have Come a Long Way
Today's Chevy trucks have come a long way from those early days, but the concept remains the same: To create the perfect truck to meet each individual's needs. According to Rich Scheer, director of exterior design, "Today, the Chevrolet truck design studio is focused on purposeful design that creates personality and customization options for a wide breadth of truck customers. Looking back on the past century of truck design, I realized that Chevrolet designers have been focused on the same goals since the very beginning."
Trucks Built with History In Mind
Both of these Chevrolet trucks have been custom built with a long look back at the history behind them. This starts with the specially created Centennial Blue exterior paint color. They will also feature a new bowtie emblem that is black (as opposed to gold), upgraded chrome trim, and more.
The 2018 Centennial Silverado and 2018 Centennial Colorado come ready to take on any challenge. The Silverado comes with a set of custom painted 22-inch rims with chrome inserts, the Colorado with a set of 18-inch rims that feature a monochromatic cap. The Silverado also comes with a set of 22-inch all-terrain tires.
Back to the Future in the New Chevy Truck
As part of their 100-year celebration, Chevrolet Trucks Division went all out. The team got together and built a brand new customized 1967 C-10. Talk about a show stopper. For those who love vintage trucks, this one is sure to bring back memories of rides in the truck bed to the lake or drive-in movies. If you missed seeing it in Texas, check it out with your local dealer to see where this incredible truck can be seen.
